অটো নিয়েই ভিতরে ঢুকলাম, শুরুতেই দৃষ্টি কাড়ল ঘন বন। এরপরই দেখা মিলল বিখ্যাত রামসাগরের, বিশাল সাইজের চোখ জুড়ানো এক দীঘি, আরো দেখা গেল এক ঝাঁক সাদা হাঁস, পাল তোলা নৌকার মত আয়েশ করে ঘুরে বেড়াচ্ছে। এই দীঘির চতুর্দিকে সুন্দর বাঁধাই করা রাস্তা আছে, রাস্তার ওপাশে অতি মনোরম সবুজ বনানী। পুরো এলাকা জুড়েই ঘন জঙ্গল, যেগুলো শীতকালে পিকনিক স্পট হিসেবে বেশ সমাদৃত।
ঐতিহাসিকদের মতে, দিনাজপুরের বিখ্যাত রাজা রামনাথ (রাজত্বকাল: ১৭২২-১৭৬০ খ্রিষ্টাব্দ) পলাশীর যুদ্ধের আগে (১৭৫০-১৭৫৫ খ্রিষ্টাব্দের মধ্যে) এই রামসাগর দিঘি খনন করেছিলেন। তারই নামানুসারে এর নামকরণ করা হয় রামসাগর। দিঘিটি খনন করতে তৎকালীন প্রায় ৩০,০০০ টাকা এবং ১৫,০০,০০০ শ্রমিকের প্রয়োজন হয়েছিল।
